Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

It is hard to believe that Valentine’s Day is TOMORROW!! If you have not had a chance to get your sweetie a gift to celebrate your love, it is not too late. There is still time to express your love and appreciation and we have some great last minute gift ideas for you!

  • A coupon book—if you have a computer and a printer and 60 minutes to spare, you can easily whip up a book of favors that your sweetie can use at any time.
  • Fill a jar with Hershey’s kisses
  • Write a love note—so simple but so sweet.
  • Snuggle up and watch a romantic movie—Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse for watching your favorite chick flick.
  • Tokens of love—fill a small gift bag with a few of the items below along with a label explaining how each is a token of your love. A jolly rancher—for all the times you made me laugh, popcorn—because you keep popping into my thoughts, a match—because we are a perfect match, candle—because you light up my life, bubble gum-because we can stick through anything.
  • Create a love box—gather all the things you can find from your special times together such as photos from your honeymoon, movie ticket stubs, photos of your kids, and of course your recent ultrasound photos and present them in a pretty box. Together you can look through these items and reminisce about the past and talk about your future.
  • A gift certificate to Stork Vision. What better way to celebrate your love then by taking a sneak peek at what you two have created together? Many locations have wonderful Share the Love packages going on throughout the month of February.

No matter how you decide to celebrate this special day, we hope it is full of lots of love, hugs and laughter.

Will it Be a Boy or a Girl?

We love our Stork Vision mommies to be and the fact that we get to share in the excitement of finding out whether our expectant moms will be buying onesies in pink or blue.  It truly is a big thrill for us too!

Last week we thought it would be fun to have some our stores keep track of how many baby girls and baby boys they were seeing during their 2D, 3D, and 4D ultrasound appointments.    Here are the results:

The state of Oklahoma was seeing a lot of pink last week!  Our Tulsa, Oklahoma Stork Vision saw 14 girls compared to only 6 boys and  our Oklahoma City’s Stork Vision had the  girl power going with 19  girls versus 13 boys.

We had two stores where footballs and dump trucks seem to be in the future of  more of our moms-to-be.  Our Stork Vision in Gaithersburg, Maryland had 3 boys and 1 girl and our Stork Vision In Tyler, Texas saw 5 boys and 4 girls (the boys barely squeaked ahead).  The one store that showed us that having a boy or girl is really a 50/50 chance was our Stork Vision SW Fort Worth where they saw an even number of boys and girls (8/8).

Overall the girls outnumbered the boys 46 to 35.  We’ll have to check in with our stores again to see if the genders even out in the weeks to come.

We Love Pinterest

Do you find yourself surfing the Internet looking at pregnancy, baby, maternity and other favorite interests websites and booking marking loads of information?  Are your bookmarked items becoming cluttered?  Are you having trouble finding the sites you bookmarked?

If so, then Pinterest to the rescue!

For those of you who are not familiar with Pinterest, Pinterest  is a social media site that allows you to pin images of things that interest you to  online bulletin boards you create.

Here is how it works.  Current members each receive 6 invitations to send out to their friends and once you receive an invite you can create an account and download the Pin It tool to your toolbar.  Or you can sign up on their site to be on the waiting list. We hear it takes about a week to receive an invitation.

Once you are a member you can create a number of different boards to pin to.  For example we have boards for Nursery Decorating Ideas, Ultrasound Imaging Photos, Pregnancy Fashions, Products We Love, Exercising While Pregnant, DIY Baby Crafts, Ideas for Announcing Your Pregnancy and more. As we see various things on the internet we  pin them to the appropriate board.

We love how Pinterest  allows you to organize your favorite sites and information found on the internet into visual boards that link back to the site.   You no longer have to have files on your computer of images that you saved from the internet  or laundry lists of bookmarks that never get organized.   And the best part is you can repin stuff that other people have found and follow their boards.  How cool is that?

As we mentioned, we have put together some boards that we think you will love.  Here is just a small sample:

Ideas to Announce Your Pregnancy Board

We invite you to follow us and we will follow you back.  We think this will be a great way to share all the fantastic pregnancy information we find.  Happy Pinning!

The Name Game–Deciding on a Name for Your Baby

Have you decided what you are going to name your baby?  For some, coming up with the perfect moniker is a breeze.   Maybe it is because you have a favorite uncle with a timeless name like Michael or  when you were a kid you saw the movie Splash and knew you’d have a daughter named Madison one day.

However, for some of us coming up with  the perfect name for our little bundle of joy can be a big undertaking.

There are plenty of  baby naming books (like 28,000 Baby Names or The 2011 Baby Name Almanac) to offer guidance and suggestions and there is a plethora of websites to help you narrow the list  (check out Babynames.com and the Baby Name Genie) but there are a few things to keep in mind when coming up with the perfect name:

  1. Watch our for initials.  You don’t want the initials of the first, middle and last names to spell out something unpleasant (i.e. Rachel Ann Thomas).
  2. Nicknames can be tricky.  Many times, a nickname is why we pick a certain name in the first place.  However, some nicknames or variations on a name can haunt you through adulthood. (Although I like my nickname, Tina (short for Kristina)– Tina-Weena still makes me wince).
  3. Pick a name that is easy to pronounce–you don’t want to have your child correcting people throughout his/her life.
  4. On that note, choose a name that is easy to spell.  Sure change a C to a K to make it interesting but naming your baby Phrank is only making him a target for teasing.
  5. Don’t throw in the towel and let your older sibling name the baby.  Ok, we know you really wouldn’t let big brother Jack name his baby brother, Mater.
  6. If  the big day comes and you are still stuck, never fear technology is here to help.  Check out the My Baby’s Name app fromWhat to Expect.com and hopefully your baby will leave the hospital with a name other than Baby Girl Jones.

5 New Year’s Resolutions For Pregnant Women

2011 is coming to a close and now is the time to make your New Year’s Resolutions for 2012.   2012 is going to be a terrific year.  You’ve got some exciting things to look forward to–your new baby!   Here are a few ideas of intentions you can set for yourself while you wait for your precious bundle’s arrival:

  • Exercise. We all know how important exercise is no matter if we are pregnant or not.  Exercise has been shown to help ease pregnancy discomfort, help you sleep better, reduce stress, boost your energy and prepare for childbirth (you will need that stamina).
  • Document your pregnancy.  9 months might seem like forever, but it will go by fast.  Be sure to capture photos of your growing belly as well as your thoughts and dreams in a diary or journal.  We posted an article earlier in the year with additional ideas and you can find it here.
  • Get organized.  In a few short months you will be busier than you ever imagined.  Use this time to get things ready for your delivery and baby’s arrival.  From creating birth plans, to nursery checklists, now is the time to get things in order.
  • Eat healthy. This is another one of those resolutions that we should do throughout our lives.  But eating healthy is even more important when you are pregnant.  Remember you are eating for two.  Baby Center  has a wonderful article–Seven Principles of Eating Well During Pregnancy that will give you great ideas on how to maintain a healthy diet.
  • Take time out for yourself. Throughout your pregnancy be sure to take time out to relax and recharge.  Doing so will help reduce stress, providing health benefits to both you and your baby.

Most importantly, resolve to enjoy your pregnancy.  Celebrate your pregnancy and this amazing journey each day, after all it will only last for 9 months.

Enjoy the Little Things This Holiday Season

The holidays may find you running around in a bit of a frenzy but remember to take time out to enjoy the small moments of each day.  Whether it is your baby’s kick against your belly, the fuzzy blanket waiting to envelope your impending bundle of joy, or the latest parenting magazine that just arrived in the mail, take those moments for yourself and relax.   Or pour yourself a steaming cup of hot chocolate, put your feet up and soak in your Christmas tree lights or the glow of the candles from your Menorah.  The important thing is to take these few moments for yourself and enjoy and savor the season.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Stork Vision………
